Arthur – Trephina George Day 5

Tuesday 7th August

When we got up today it was dark and you could just see the sun coming up on the horizon at that was at 6:00am.  We still had a long way to go today and not sure what Cattle water pass was going to be like so we had to be on the road early.

So out of Arthur River (free camp) at about 7:15am not far down the road we stopped at the biggest termite mound near the road and took photos of everyone beside it.

Dusty Road
We pulled into Jervois at 8:00am and filled up with fuel very expensive ($2. plus ) and by the time we had a chat to the owner and found out a little about cattle water pass.

Down the road was Harts Range and passed that at 10:00am and after that a police car raced pass us going the same way and left us with a cloud of dust (thanks) not sure where he was going but he was in a hurry.

We are now at the turnoff to cattle water pass even though Paul went passed and I was telling him that was the turn off do you think he would listen (no).  It was now time to have a quick morning tea before starting the track.

Kerry in the wildflowers
We saw some lovely wildflowers on this track and the whole place looked very green.

The track was good even though people told us it was not safe we had no trouble and we are towing a camper.

Bull Dust
We did hit a section with a bit of bull dust nothing major and everyone got through it not dramas at all.

Pete found a good spot for lunch about 1:30 and after that we found a steep stretch of the track all was good and we made it.

Continued on and the track was good all the way to Old Ambuliumba, and at the end of the track we turned left and headed for Altunga to have a look there.

On to Trephina Gorge for the night and we arrived there about 4:00pm, not a lot of spots left for us so when we did find a place for three camps we just pulled up and set up.
Altunga Mines

Had a lovely dinner and a chat before making out way to bed at about 8:30pm, too early for me so I sat up typing up a few day's diary entries.
